Youth Programs

The congregation at Shaare Torah welcomes children, and hopes that they will feel the warmth and energy of participating in an active Jewish community. It is not unusual for the entryway to be filled with strollers on Shabbat morning! Children are the Jewish future, and we strive to engage them with Jewish learning, Torah observance, love of G-d and the Jewish people, and a connection with the State of Israel.

Shabbat Youth Programs

We have programs for families and children of all ages. Children are welcome to participate in all services, and we as adults strive to set a good example for them in the sanctuary. On Shabbat and holidays, children are also invited to attend our youth groups. “Groups before Groups” provides care for our earlier risers beginning at 9am, and youth groups begin at 10am. Each group is organized by age and provides a safe and meaningful place for children from one year old to teenaged to explore, play, and learn. Youth group activities include games, songs, Torah study, age-appropriate davening, and snacks. All groups rejoin the congregation to participate in the end of the service and kiddush.

Mommy and Me Room

Shaare Torah has a dedicated room for the needs of nursing mothers and their infants. The Mommy and Me Room provides a comfortable, attractive, and private space for breastfeeding and infant care. The room is equipped with ample seating, a glider, changing table, refrigerator, and is stocked with extra supplies. Upon completion of the Mommy and Me Room in 2005, Shaare Torah was presented with the 10th Annual Breastfeeding Friendly Place Award from the Allegheny County Health Department. This quiet retreat provides the perfect place for caring for our youngest members and guests.
