David Chudnow & Heather Goldstein's Bio

David Chudnow and Heather Goldstein moved to Pittsburgh in 2014 and quickly made Shaare Torah their home. From early on, they were drawn to the warmth of the community and the opportunity to contribute in ways that strengthen communal life. David has been especially involved in helping shape the social and logistical framework of the shul, often working behind the scenes to ensure that programs are sustainable, welcoming, and shared.

At Shaare Torah, David helped transition the Kiddush model from a single overextended volunteer to a team-based structure, supporting a system designed to endure under successive leadership. He has also played a key role in revitalizing social programming, including events such as The Cheese Ball, United in Laughter, and the annual Change of Clocks dinner, as well as bringing in outside speakers and performers, including Eli Leibowitz. Following the pandemic, David was instrumental in helping reinvigorate the programming committee and also served on the rabbinic search committee during an important period in the shul’s life.

David’s involvement reflects a deeply rooted instinct to step in where help is needed. He does not seek the spotlight or formal titles, but instead looks for ways to support others, build systems that last, and help the community function well. Heather has been an essential partner in this work, offering constant encouragement and sharing a commitment to communal responsibility and connection.

David and Heather met while studying at the University of Michigan and spent several years in the Midwest before settling in Pittsburgh. Heather is a veterinarian, and David has spent most of his career working in the nonprofit sector, currently serving Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Together, they model a quiet, steady dedication to community, rooted in partnership, service, and a belief that strong shuls are built by people who consistently show up.
