Learning

Shaare Torah hosts Torah learning classes and opportunities throughout the week. All are invited (and encouraged) to attend, whether Shaare Torah members or not. Please see the weekly bulletin for times and class announcements.

Daf Yomi (daily): Rabbi Wasserman leads the daily study of a page of Talmud. This is a fast-paced class that quickly covers a lot of complex material.

Daf Yerushalmi (daily): Similar to Daf Yomi, which studies the more widely known Babylonian Talmud, in this class Rabbi Wasserman leads the daily study of a page of the Jerusalem Talmud.

Chumash Vayikra (weekly): Rabbi Wasserman leads the in-depth study of the book of Vayikra (Leviticus). This class is based in the text but also frequently moves into topics of interest to the participants.

Parsha (weekly): Rabbi Shusterman leads the study, interpretation, and analysis of the weekly Torah portion.

Parsha in the Park (weekly on Shabbat afternoon): Rabbi Shusterman discusses inspiring insights from the week’s Torah portion. Come and learn while your kids play in Davis Park.

Navi (weekly): Rabbi Wasserman leads the study, interpretation, and elucidation of aspects of the Jewish prophetic writings.

Mishna and More (weekly): Rabbi Wasserman delves into various topics in the Mishna, the original compendium of Jewish oral law. Along the way, he looks at relevant aspects of Jewish history, Torah, and Halacha (Jewish law). This class moves at a relaxed pace and is excellent for beginners.

Talmud Berachot (weekly): Rabbi Wasserman leads the in-depth study of the Talmudic tractate of Berachot (Blessings). This class moves at a relaxed pace, allowing for considerable analysis and explanation.

The Alan Goodkind Memorial Open Beit Midrash (weekly): One night per week, we invite you to gather at Shaare Torah to learn in the traditional manner with a study partner on any topic of your choosing. There is always a rabbi or knowledgable lay person there to give you guidance and/or assistance if you so desire. If you do not have a study partner or know what to learn, this is not a problem as we can help set you up with both. We encourage interested learners of any level from beginner to advanced to attend.
